Our Team

Dr. Joshua Owen is an internal medicine physician actively involved with the Indian American Medical Association Charitable Foundation Free Health Clinic, where he serves as a physician preceptor for medical students. Following his medical school education, he completed his internship program at the Rush University Medical Center before pursuing residency training at the University of Minnesota.

He is passionate about providing medical care to communities in need and has been supported Hamara Health's recent initiative to design and distribute educational brochures on cardiovascular health and diabetes management to patients at the clinic.

Colleen Stiles-Shields, Ph.D., is a Pediatric Psychologist and an Assistant Professor at the Institute for Juvenile Research (IJR) and the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). She earned a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Chicago and a Master’s and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. She is passionate about increasing access to evidence-based mental and behavioral health care, particularly for youth and families with minoritized identities and from marginalized communities.

Dr. Sameer Patel, MD MPH is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Infectious Diseases at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Medical Director of Antimicrobial Stewardship at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. He completed his medical training at Rush Medical College, pediatric residency training at Weill Cornell Medical Center, and pediatric infectious diseases fellowship training at the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York at Columbia University Medical Center. He also obtained a Master’s in Public Health from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. He coordinates efforts to promote the judicious use of antimicrobials at Lurie Children’s. He has received grant funding for research in antimicrobial stewardship, biomedical informatics, patient safety and quality, and hospital epidemiology. He also engages in efforts to reduce excess antibiotic use in food production, including direct legislative advocacy, public education, and training of healthcare workers.
